Pastor Andre Dowdell Sr.

Pastor Andre’ Dowdell Sr., affectionately known as Pastor D, is the Senior Pastor of Greater New Testament Missionary Baptist Church in Syracuse, New York. Since accepting the call to serve as Senior Pastor in 2004, Pastor D has faithfully led with vision, humility, and a deep commitment to both spiritual growth and community impact.

Born and raised in Syracuse, Pastor D is the son of Pheobe Dowdell and the late Pastor Leamon Dowdell. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from SUNY Fredonia, along with a coaching certification, and later received a Master’s degree in Christian Ministry from Liberty University. His professional background includes serving as Youth Enrichment Director at The Salvation Army and more than three decades of coaching within the North Syracuse Central School District.

Pastor D is known for developing impactful ministries that extend beyond the walls of the church, including community feeding and clothing outreach (Greater Works Ministry), marriage and singles ministries, youth development programs, and seasonal outreach initiatives. His leadership emphasizes practical faith—proclaiming the Word of God while meeting real needs with compassion and excellence.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Pastor D led extensive outreach efforts that provided food, supplies, and essential resources to families throughout the community. His continued focus remains on strengthening the church as a hub for spiritual renewal, service, and transformation.

In addition to pastoral leadership, Pastor D serves as an Assistant Track & Field Coach at SUNY Oswego and as Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Nottingham High School, reflecting his lifelong passion for mentoring youth and young adults. His service and leadership have been recognized through numerous honors, including the Urban League Family Award, the Jefferson Award, multiple recognitions in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, and the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award.

Pastor Andre’ Dowdell Sr. is a devoted husband to Lady Shirelle Dowdell, a loving father of five, and a proud grandfather of six. His life and ministry are guided by a simple yet powerful calling: to know God more and to make Him known more.
